Albinia Science, Responsibility, Ice | ❧ Played by Sair |
 |
Appearance: As a human, she’s a grown woman, with pale skin, long light colored hair, and light blue eyes. She will never smile and either has a distant look or disapproving look most of the time.
Characteristics: Stern, serious, cold, reserved, scientific, socially awkward, rational.
Likes: Order, rules, responsibility, self-control, logic, science (Of all kinds, except mad scientist science.), scientific method, ice, frozen goods, ice sculptures (the one form of art she really enjoys), her sister, and she shares a joy of balance, dichotomy, and most importantly, popcorn with her sister.
Dislikes: Chaos, rule breaking, lack of control, irresponsibility, idiocy, mad scientist art, spicy food, hot drinks, most other forms of art, most things Kalidas likes, people who do not like popcorn, her sister, people messing with her sister. |
 |
Shrine: An ice sculpture of a circular archway. The ice never melts and it’s cold to the touch, though people won’t ever get stuck to it. (Unless they lick it, in which case, they’ll be stuck there for an hour at least.)
Ritual: To summon her, the person needs to put their hand on the statue and list off some science type fact. (It does not necessarily need to be correct, just be something sciencey.)

NOTE: For those who are approved to be assistants or guinea pigs, you basically get a unit pay. Assistants (teacher): 3 Units per class. Assistants (experiments): 7 Units per experiment session Guinea Pigs: 10 Units per time you’re being tested on
NOTE 2: If there’s a high chance your character will be dickish to her/does terribly irresponsible things that hurt other people on a regular basis/is one of those guys who murders people, it would probably be better to actually thread that out because Albinia is finicky. |

Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
You could try Henrietta if you're interested, but she's not the most talkative. Kain usually likes to ask a lot of questions than tell you facts.
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
...his machine's pretty cool, though.
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
And his machines can be entertaining to watch.
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
[Digs in his pocket for a rainbow origami crane.]
But mostly it just falls, so far.
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
But paper is also rather light, so if he did mean something literal, then you should try where there's wind. Just don't go anywhere dangerous alone.
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
[I also told Aoi I wouldn't talk to the gods. And may have gone out yesterday, anyway, but. :x]
...I bet I can take it up to the treetops when I'm bigger. I'd have to make sure it didn't fall all the way down if it doesn't fly, though. Do you think vines'd make a good net?
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
They would. If you used leaves to fill in the gaps, you wouldn't risk losing it through the gaps either.
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
[Shuffles a little. :|a]
Hey, uh. Did you mean that about the ice cream?
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
What flavor?
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
[Yayyyyy ice cream. Man he sure is digging in his pocket for a chip of wood to use as a spoon and eating it RIGHT HERE.]
[OM NOM NOM, best breakfast. It is going faster than probably advisable, too. Wh-whoops, sorry responsibility domain.]
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
You'll get an ice cream headache if you eat that fast.
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
[But he is still going anyway. Someone hasn't been eating properly since he got here. :|b ...and is totally talking with his mouth full.]
's good though.
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
[Though noticing you do seem pretty...ravenous.]
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
[And yeah, if it was a smallish container, he is finishing it up about now.]
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
Would you like to bring more food back to your apartment?
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
Then would you like to tell me more about what science you know? That should be more than enough.
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
[Pauses again, like before, to let himself remember forward. :|a]
Refraction's the bending of a light wave when it enters a medium where its speed's different. The refraction of light when it passes from a fast medium to a slow medium bends the light ray toward the normal to the boundary between the two media. The amount of bending depends on the indices of refraction of the two media.
Snell's law describes how much it gets bent- but I guess here it'll have a different name, since someone else probly made it up. Anyway, Snell's Law states that the ratio of the sines of the angles of incidence and refraction is equivalent to the ratio of phase velocities in the two media, or equivalent to the opposite ratio of the indices of refraction.
Since the speed of light's reduced in the slower medium, the wavelength gets shortened. The frequency's unchanged; that's a characteristic of the source of the light.
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
Refraction between two surfaces is also referred to as reversible because if every condition's the same, the angles would be the same for light propagating in the opposite direction, too.
Snell's law is pretty much only true for isotropic or specular media like glass. In anisotropic media like crystals, birefringence can split the refracted ray into two rays, the ordinary one that follows Snell's law, and the other extraordinary one which might not.
Re: [Day 19, early early morning]
[Nods.] Very good. And even the equation, especially for your age.
That should be enough for a proper meal's worth of food for your whole apartment. Would you like more?
