Appearance: Kain has a boyish charm and a baby face to match. He's not very physically strong, more lean than built. He has problems keeping his hair out of his face. He looks absentminded but is almost always smiling if a bit confused. He's usually in plain clothes or shirts with a lot of pencils, notes and papers sticking out of all his pockets. He falls asleep at the drop of a hat and a soft, ethereal looking pillow is usually a good sign he’s around somewhere nearby.

Characteristics: Absentminded, flighty, dreamy, imaginative, creative, short-attention span, insecure, forgetful, wordy, inspired.

Likes: Innovations of any kind but especially technology, knowledge, sharing of information, daydreams and imagination.

Dislikes: Destruction of knowledge, murder, broken devices, false information, violence.

Shrine: A 2x2 square feet Rube Goldberg device.

Ritual: You start the device by placing pushing the shiny gold ball at the very top of a ramp, which delivers it to a staircase, falls onto a seesaw, sets off a pully system as well as a water powered pump which triggers a set of chimes. Eventually the end of the device drops the original ball into a small wooden cup, which will usually alert Kain's attention. Sacrifices are placed in a small platform above the cup which allows the ball to land on it instead. Please don't try to play around with the shrine, Kain doesn't like that.

Still, it is useful, isn't it? Sometimes you have to clear the chess board to see all the moves.

Do you enjoy games then? A game is a conversation with your hands, much like art is with your eyes and music to the ears.

I hadn't, but I acquired it from a rather overlooked friend for some time. Communication and messages in symbols and strategy. It's a very interesting way to talk when one is no longer able to.

Then I shan't. How have you been? Has there been a lot to learn amongst everyone here? I greatly desire to know how you see your new home and companions.

Quite wonderful! Absolutely smashing even, though I imagine the hangover tomorrow is going to be a new and interesting experience of far less joy and wonder and more of the novelty of function. But that is a matter for today! No wait. Tomorrow. A matter for tomorrow. Today is about a warm fuzziness at the edges of everything leaving a somewhat distanced but altogether pleasant after effect.

I have! In fact, discovered a light to moderate amount of alcohol is transferred over during transformation. That IS really new.

... But yes. [He pulls his knees up and beams.] We've sought out a place and now are making it home in proper. ... It's a wonderful thing, a strange little slice of belonging settling into the whole of a strange world. It makes it a comfortable place even should I - and I know I shall - err here and there.

And yourself? Find anything interesting amongst the sea of faces, curious and peering, seeking out the phenomena of your shrine and the kindness of your favor?

A hangover? [surprised confusion] You've been drinking? I suppose that is something new to learn, the lessening of control and inhibitions. You make it sound as if you are going through your day with a blanket wrapped around you, soothing you to everything you touch and encounter. [teasing smile] What kind of transformations?

Ah...I have heard something about things happening...but what is life without trials and experimentations? If you never try to see what happens, you will always be left wondering what might have been. Although you really shouldn't have painted Eizon's shrine. He's quite particular about those things, you know.

Some seek, some demand. Most do not understand even when I give them the answers. It is different, being here, so close, so in touch with everything and everyone. Living not just in ideas and thoughts but to try to show the ant the earth it dwells, to try to compress pure...vision and process into mere words. But they are not all like that. You, for example, understand.

I have dreadfully few inhibitions, my dazzling friend. To the point I'm something of a worry to those who've taken to care for me. As such, I'm staying very much somewhere very not dangerous. ... And yes, a little downy, kind of warm, but something fluffy too. I'd color it a bit teal if I had to pick. Waters, not oils, of course. Too heavy otherwise and I'm certainly NOT drunk enough for it to be that.

And certainly! I can show you if you like. Though I will have to warn you, my other form is almost unimaginably dashing and adorable, beyond your wildest expectations.

Ah, yes. I knew and know. But it answered a bit and left a little more open. I'm certain of, at very least, we are not compatible types, he and I. Though you and I... we may be analogs to some degree... though I'd like to think it was more of complimentary shades, or a harmony of like scales.

You sound as if you are advertising for yourself. Some will say you boast. [crossing his legs as he settles next to and laughs lightly] Teal and fluffy...I don't think I'm a good candidate for such things, but I'll very much take your word for it. Teal is not usually the color that I've seen people associate with this type of thing though. [Slightly worried brow there.]

Even more dashing as you are now? I do think you have the best of me, dear one. Now I am doubly curious.

As the eagle soars, so does the hummingbird flit, both upon wings the same yet of great difference. We both come from the same place in here, I believe. [taps his forehead with one finger] An accidental harmony that has created something wonderfully new.

[He laughs in response, and leans against your shoulder with his, casually.]

It means not much of anything, when I boast. Weightless words are easier to free. [And the grin turns impish.] And the color is only because I have tried it without the intent. Those who drink to forget, or remember, to reminisce or break forward... it takes those colors. This was merely curiosity... and a soup bowl, as it were.

[And finally another laugh.] Then I shall not leave your curiosity wanting! [The presence against you disappears in a swirl of wind.]

[And reappears as a tiny blue squid with enormous eyes. It seems to have ABSOLUTELY no issue with being on land.

It makes a TA-DA gesture.]

[blinks with wide eyes]

[and then practically balls over laughing.] Oh my cephalopod friend, your hidden talents! How is it that you are indeed, so dashing and adorable? [reaches down to gently take one of your tentacles as if shaking your hand] Your eyes are still quite inquisitive, my tiny companion.

Of all of them? Would you believe this has been the most useful, my dear? I would have guessed though, they're such a resilient species~

[The tentacles curl around your fingers as the rest hoist the squidy thing up to stand on tiptoe.]

Do you think? I must say, of all things I'm looking forward to setting up, a mirror shall be one of them. Another surprise to await me!

[very much so, in a serious voice betrayed by his smile] You are absolutely dashing in this form with your very versitile tentacles. We will have to get you a mirror at once.

Did you pick this form? Or was it one given to you? Most curious... [leans down to allow the squid to climb on his hand if it would like] And amphibian...you can swim as well?

[It's half curling around you, the other half the gentle pinch of suckers as he hoists himself up into your hand. The small creature almost fits in just your palm if you forgive the many arms... which currently wave as he talks.]

Where I originated, we were not so at odds with nature, in fact, by the end, we were all that sustained it. Though I will say, they were always my favorite creature. I could go on and on about them.

And. Oh yes, they're quite excellent swimmers. They could exist in literally any habitat except lava and space. ... I'm honestly not sure about space, and given enough time and a source of food, I'd lay odds on lava eventually as well. [The skin of the creature flushes and turns a bright orangish red, following his thoughts.]

[leans down on his stomach, legs in the air, resting on a soft pillow that has appeared so he can hold you up comfortably as he listens]

Ah…nature. [a look of bereavement crosses his face briefly and then it brightens] But to take it upon yourself to choose to become something as vastly different, to carry on in form and substance- though not completely, I sense or you would not be able to speak with me now. And your colors…do you change with your moods and feelings? You remind me of a flower, I once saw, that would change as the day passed, from red to gold to plum, though if the weather was cold, it would forever stay blue. I never saw it again, that flower…

But this, you were drinking as your smaller, gentler self as well? A far safer experiement at this stage in your life than lava, I suppose.

No, you're quite correct. They can produce sound, but the necessary articulation is just something a touch beyond them.

It can and will, of course, there are other traits I've picked up. [The squidrat's skin SPARKLES.] Of course, this particular effect comes with the unfortunate disadvantage of vampirism, but what can you do? [It vanishes, settling back into a soft greenish blue hue.]

Indeed! I will admit, I'll give lava a miss unless left absolutely no choice. I simply don't think I could afford enough moisturizer.

Oh dear, being accused in the morning because sucker marks appear on people’s necks could be quite embarrassing. [rubbing your tentacles and skin with his thumbs because ooo so nice and slippery] A very wonderful grand entrance effect, for sure.

We would need to coat you quite thickly. [lifts up to look god eyes to squid eyes] Does it have any method of protection? It does seem rather easy to take a hold of. I would not suggest you use it while in the wild to escape.

Besides speed and a convenient lack of a skeletal structure - a simply invaluable skill should a wall be close...?

Not particularly, outside of being practically inedible... The difficulty being that nothing here already KNOWS that from generations of learned behavior, it's really quite vexing.

[laughs] Escape by squiding away...what a delightfully different route of escape.

Oh dear, I do hope no one has tried to consume you lately.

[The wind stirs again, and swirls between your fingers. As the young man reappears, his hand is clasping Kain's, kneeling in front of him.]

Fear not! It's been weeks since something's tried.

[smiling dreamily as he pushes himself up so he's sitting up again, still holding your hand]

That's good. It's one experiment that I do not wish to see.

[Gosh this is comfortable~ Settles crosslegged, making no moves to disengage at all.]

Neither do I, as in particular, I wouldn't be around to properly credit or discredit the hypothesis. Really gums up the idea of scientific process.

[...they're like a pair of puppies.]
