Dellen [de-len] Water, Glass, Human Protection, Human Creation | ❧ Played by Aviy
![]() | |||||||||||||||||||||
Appearance: Female and human, roughly in her 40's and too thin. She has pale skin and hair, but the coloring is just a little inhuman. The main color to her is a pair of incredibly deep blue eyes. She wears loose, off-white, Grecian-style clothing that makes her look both paler and smaller than she is. Her hair is often in disarray, and her overall appearance often appears untended. Despite looking small, underfed, and wafty, when Dellen isn't having an episode, she has a very commanding and warm presence. There is, at all times, a surprising 'weight' about her that marks her unmistakably as divine. Characteristics: Nurturing, monogamous, lesbian, obsessive, demanding, needy, devoted, nonfatal self sacrifice, yandere. Likes: Faithful loving monogamous relationships, being understanding of her, sacrifice for the betterment of others, expressions of love (even twisted ones). Dislikes: Death (human only), poly/orgies/unfaithfulness, material selfishness, rejection, lack of understanding, talking badly about humans, nature.

Shrine: Pale sandstone slab at ground level, behind it is a stack of precarious sandstone making a narrow pillar. On top of the pillar is a large bowl (but with cracks instead of bubbles) filled with crystal clear water. Ritual: Stand on the slab and place your (CLEAN) hands in the bowl to get her attention. Once the agreement is made, place your sacrifice on the slab and sprinkle some water from the bowl onto it.

Hello.
Night 15
Greetings, most wise and all-powerful Dellen. I was directed here by a lady named "Becca", who recommended I speak with you about what I think needs to be done here.
This... place... seems to be made up of individuals taken almost at random from their own worlds. Leaving aside that I did not believe that other worlds even held life, this presents us with some problems. We have no unifying government or church. No leader and no hierarchical system. In my own world, our kings are descended from the first King, who was given near-infinite power by our Gods. There has never been a question of who rules, and no question of which Lore we follow. Others here do not know of my Lore, but they have "Laws" instead, which seem to be similar.
We seem to have a peaceful situation here for the moment, but I believe that if we are to create a thriving society, we need to find common ground, and create a Book of Lore by which everyone can agree to live. Since gods such as yourself seem to be very directly involved in everyday life here, it seems obvious that you, and others that share your divinity, should be instrumental in guiding us in the making of this Book.
Do you think you could help us in this way?
Re: Night 15
I believe you will have a hard time with that, my dear. Gods are not known for their ability to agree on much.

Some of us fight, yes. In this way we share human nature. But being immortal, bloodshed means little. Fighting mostly happens between those whose natures are in too strong an opposition for them to do anything else.

I will answer what I can.
Re: Night 15
We have not had contact with our gods for millenia, so we have theologians who have constructed two trains of thought regarding them, and I wonder if either applies to you.
First, there is the theory that gods are like the shadow of a human. If the human grows taller, or becomes bigger, so does the god. The human can never be rid of his shadow, but neither can he influence its size, shape or behaviour. The shadow is simply there, and will always be a part of him no matter what he does.
Second, there is the idea that gods require human belief to survive, and directly draw their power from them. A god with just one believer is a sliver of a thing, sometimes dismissed as an illness of the mind, or a ghost, or a fantasy. No power and barely existing. A god with many, many followers however, is empowered by their belief, and capable of miracles and great demonstrations of power. As their believers grow in number, so too does the power of the god. Likewise, as faith begins to dwindle, the god loses much of their strength.
So from examining the evidence I have heard so far, I would assume that you and your peers are based on the first train of thought - otherwise you would be a lot more concerned about gaining believers than you appear to be, and you would have died with your culture without belief or sacrifice to sustain you.
I do not understand, however, how you all managed to survive the death of the civilisation that created you, because neither theory can explain how a god would outlive the people it is based upon. Nor does it explain how you could... reincarnate... people from dozens of different worlds, all of whom have never heard of you or indeed have gods of their own like myself.
I would like to better understand your motivation for bringing us here and how it benefits you, what your ultimate goal is and how we factor into it. Please could you help me answer some of these questions?

[takes a seat on the slab of her shrine while you are talking, but does patiently listen to everything]
As far as the first part goes, neither theory is far off, but neither is quite right, either. Hm... I know it upsets your metaphor, but the truth is a shadow is a shadow, and a god is a god. A shadow cannot effect the form the casts it, only mimic it, and we are not that. In truth, humans depend on us to be able to effect them, though normally only at their request.
And to say we draw power from belief would be... subaccurate. Perhaps for a god of truth, belief would be quite a boon, but I am the goddess of humanity's creation, protection, of water and glass. I take power from that which falls to me.
And for how we have survived, well... we were quite powerful once. That power did not disappear with humanity, simply the ability to replenish it. Much of our reserves went into bringing you here.

One last question; would any of the gods here would be interested in serving as a final divine authority? I don't know anything about you or your peers except what I was told immediately upon arrival.
